Jon has been making up songs for as long as he can remember and everything he sees is a potential story in the making. Although he grew up inland in the town of Upminster, his happy place will always be by the coast and the sea.

His earliest musical memory is seeing a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch, at the age of three, and from that moment musicals have always been a part of his life. A singer for several years, he fronted bands with friends through the 90s and performed in several musicals, before retraining in theatre production at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

For the next fifteen years, Jon worked as a freelance stage, production, and site manager for theatre and live events, whilst carving out precious writing time to develop a series of musicals and three middle-grade adventure novels. He has worked for the National Theatre, Young Vic, Roundhouse, and Assembly Festivals and is currently Outreach Manager for Guildhall School of Music & Drama, developing new programmes to engage young people with the creative industries.

His first venture into writing musicals was the 80s-inspired Charming, set in a bankrupt kingdom 25 years after a paparazzi sting wrecked the marriage of Prince Charming to Cinderella. In 2012, Joe Harmston directed a workshop and presentation at the Tristan Bates Theatre.

Lockdown in 2020 gave Jon time to finish writing a Christmas musical, The First Chris Moose, about a fun-loving teenage moose with a dream of flying, who undertakes a perilous journey in search of a secret network rumoured to bring happiness around the world for one night each year. A cast demo was recorded at the Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch (back where Jon saw his first show all those years before), with Musical Director Dan Glover in May 2021, as lockdown began to be lifted for the live events industry.

His latest musical, With Courage, is written in celebration and commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). A folk-infused tale spanning two centuries of saving lives, With Courage ran at The Other Palace in London from 17-22 September, directed by Charlie Westenra, with musical direction by Mary Erskine, choreography by Jane McMurtrie, and designed by Anna Kelsey (produced by Steph Weller for PlayWell Productions).
